Most people renting a 10 yard are doing a one-weekend job and would rather not pay for space they will not use. This page is here to help you work out whether the small one is genuinely enough, and to say so plainly if it is not.
Is a 10 Yard Dumpster Enough for Your Job?
Three questions settle it most of the time.
1. Could your debris fill four pickup trucks? If the honest answer is “nowhere near,” the 10 yard is more than enough. If it is “probably about that,” book the 10 and expect to fill it. If it is “more than that,” go up a size — a second load costs more than the size upgrade would have.
2. Is your debris heavy or light? Every dumpster we rent includes 1 ton, so weight is the limit that catches people out — not volume. Furniture, boxes, brush, and general household junk are light; you will run out of room before you run out of tonnage. Tile, plaster, dirt-laden yard waste, and roofing shingles are heavy; you can hit 1 ton with the dumpster half full.
3. Is it all one project, or is it a whole-house situation? One room, one garage, one yard — that is a 10 yard. A whole house or an estate is a 15 yard.

Only two things can change what that load costs you: extra days at $50 each (capped — a full 7 days is never more than $649), and disposal over the included ton at $110 per additional ton, prorated. The 10 Yard Holds the Same 1 Ton as Our Biggest Dumpster
This is the part most people do not expect, and it is the best reason to book the small one.
Our 10, 12, and 15 yard dumpsters all include exactly 1 ton of disposal. Renting a bigger dumpster buys you more room. It does not buy you a larger weight allowance.
So if your debris is heavy and compact — a small tile tear-out, a bathroom demo, dense yard waste — the 10 yard gives you the same 1 ton as the 15 yard for $100 less. Paying up for volume you cannot use because you will hit the weight limit first is the most common way people overspend on a dumpster.
The flip side is just as true: if your debris is light and bulky, volume is your real limit and a bigger dumpster earns its price.

10 Yard or 12 Yard? It Is a $50 Decision
The 12 yard is $449 — fifty dollars more for roughly one extra pickup load of room. Same 1 ton included, same $50 per extra day, same $649 seven-day cap.
Stay with the 10 yard if your job is one room, one garage, or one yard, or if your debris is heavy enough that you will reach 1 ton before you fill the space.
Step up to the 12 yard if you are working across two or three rooms, if you are clearing bulky furniture, or if you genuinely cannot picture the volume. Fifty dollars is cheaper than a second load.
We are not going to talk you into the bigger one. If the 10 is enough, book the 10.
What You Cannot Put in a 10 Yard Dumpster
Not accepted in any of our standard dumpsters:
- Concrete, asphalt, dirt, gravel, rock, and masonry — these go in our concrete and dirt dumpster, which is priced for the weight
- Hazardous materials and chemicals
- Paint
- Batteries
- Tires
- Anything prohibited by California state law
Everything else on a normal cleanout is fine and can go in mixed together: furniture, mattresses, boxes, clothing, appliances, construction and demolition debris, flooring, drywall, wood, and yard waste. You do not need to sort it.

Frequently Asked Questions — 10 Yard Dumpster Rental
Is a 10 yard dumpster big enough for a garage cleanout?
For a standard single-car garage of boxes, light furniture, and household junk — yes, comfortably. Where it gets tight is a garage holding heavy material: old machinery, scrap metal, stacked tile, or paving stones. Those hit the 1 ton allowance before they fill the space. Call us and describe what is in there.
Can I put roofing shingles in a 10 yard dumpster?
Yes, but shingles are heavy and you will reach 1 ton well before the dumpster looks full. For a small section of roof a 10 yard is fine. For a full tear-off, a 12 yard or 15 yard is the better booking — not for the volume, but so the job is not split across two loads.
What if I fill it and still have more?
That happens, and it is not a problem — we will pick up the full one and bring you an empty one. Here is how it prices out:
- First load: $399, 1 ton of disposal included
- Each additional load: $349, 1 ton of disposal included
That is $50 off the regular one-day price for every load after the first, and each load carries the same included ton as the first — the allowance is not split across the job. Additional loads are priced separately from the $649 seven-day cap, which covers how long you keep a dumpster rather than how many loads you go through. What happens if I go over the 1 ton included?
Extra disposal is $110 per additional ton, prorated — you pay for the actual overage rather than a rounded-up ton.
Can I cancel or change my dates?
Cancel 24 hours or more before your scheduled delivery and you get a full refund. Inside 24 hours a cancellation fee may apply. If you just need to shift dates, call or text us — we would rather move it than cancel it.
How long can I keep it?
The base price covers your first day, and each additional day is $50. A 7 day rental never costs more than $649. Choose your pick-up date when you book, or call or text to extend while you have it.
